FRAN’S ECHOES

Words & Music By
Linus Redding

It’s Three AM and time to eat, I grab my hat, coat and gloves.
To 21 St. Clair Avenue, Fran always has the food I love.
An it’s cool here in paradise, They reserve my booth every night.
I hear the fugue of nocturnal life, whirs’s and stirs my appetite.
And coffee that’s always just right.

You had known the world from the stage.
From a very, very early age.
But more and more you would dread.
The people there for which you are lead.
That terrible fright came on instead.

So I said it's true, “I won’t go on the stages any more” So you said, "So long
to the Cold Street, back stage metal door."
For you genius, the suits left you alone
You had the winning hand all along.

When ever I drop in on Toronto.
I feel the ghost of my old friend.
I go through the jazz clubs
The dance and romance clubs.
Places you’ve never went,
But I find myself turning up at Four AM
In a booth, looking out the double doors.
On my I-pod listening to “The Well Tempered Clavier”.
